Wichita, KS – On Monday, April 9, the Concert Band will present its spring concert at 7:30 p.m. in Sebits Auditorium, Riney Fine Arts Center at 鶹.

Michael Sweeney will be a guest conductor at the performance and is sponsored by Senseney Music. Sweeney is one of Friends’ composer-conductor-in-residence and is one of the most published composers for wind band literature in the United States.

The band will play four of Sweeney’s compositions. Rumble on the High Plains portrays a variety of scenes from across Kansas, including westward expansion and violent storms. Fractured Time is a fascinating piece that portrays time itself being fractured, along with using “fractured time” as a compositional technique.

In addition to Sweeney’s works, the band will feature Persis Lugalia, principal flute with the Concert Band, performing the Chaminade Flute Concertino. Lugalia won second place in the 鶹 Miller Solo Auditions.

Tickets are $6 for adults, and $3 for seniors and students. They may be purchased online at friends.edu/finearts, or by calling the Fine Arts Box Office at 316-295-5677.
